Interior Design Trends for 2021

Happy New Year from the Modern and Classic team, we hope you had a restful and safe Christmas.

As its the start of a new year, we wanted to chat through some new interior design trends for 2021. First up we have eco-chic with eco-focused materials featuring heavily in 2021. It is a mix of eco-friendly, sustainability, comfortable, luxurious and modern interiors where ecological and luxury blend together. The new colour palette for the eco-chic trend includes golden beige, moss green, soft olive and earthy orange. We will also see a renewed focus on craft and multifunctional furniture. In sync with the rise of the conscious consumerism comes the desire for furniture that offers longevity, quality and durability. Our need to feel grounded, calm and connected to nature is expressed through understated furniture, textile fabrics, sustainable materials and multifunctional, warm minimalism.

Current in the global trends last summer, it’s set to be ever more present in the coming seasons. We are talking about the use of earthy tones. Pinterest revealed searches for ‘terracotta walls’ increased by 86 per cent, year on year, in the UK in 2020. These rich, warm shades sit in a colour palette of plaster pink, burnt orange, spiced ochre and charcoal black, all pigments drawn from natural materials. A real earthy and back to nature feel.

A snug space in the home is set to become increasingly popular in 2021 adding soft and comfortable elements to your space, with a mixture of textures – linen and wool on sofas and armchairs and warm wood tables, combined to make a comfortable place to relax. This adds texture and warmth, whilst also making the space feel lived in, a feeling that we crave in the colder months.

As more people are relying on their homes as an office, an outdoor space for connecting with nature and entertaining friends and family in a safe way can essential. Investing in cultivating outdoor spaces large or small into functional and beautiful additions of the home makes a lot of sense.
