Timeless Tiles

I think there’s something super stylish about a black and white floor. It’s a true classic and can be used to easily create a timeless interior and works effortlessly with all styles of property, from a rustic country home to a smaller city apartment. Whilst there are endless pattern combinations and designs, the chequerboard is the simplest and most iconic. The white tiles can reflect the light and the black tiles can absorb it, creating a bold statement and sticking to a monochrome colour scheme creates a very tailored chic look. However, if that’s a little too severe other materials can be added to soften the appearance. For example, marble and metallic can make a bathroom feel a lot softer – and indoor plants will instantly create a relaxing atmosphere. Wood and stone can also be used for a more contemporary and rustic look.

Although we talk about the traditional black and white tiles for bathrooms nothing is stopping us from transferring this chic look into other rooms such as the kitchen area.

Adding a checkerboard floor to a sleek modern space also adds some welcome pattern. Laying the tiles diagonally can even out all of the horizontal lines created by the worktops, wall tiles and shelves. The Victorian origin of this type of black and white floor is in beautiful contrast to the modern lines of the rest of the kitchen.

For a pop of colour, black and white floors also work with other bold colours such as red, orange and blue. Swap out the boldness with pastel shades and a whole different look can be created! Black and white tiles are a timeless classic interior for any home that can be designed and styled to whatever style suits you.
