Textures
In this week’s blog post we wanted to talk textures. Texture is a secret weapon in the design world it will really transform an ok space into something beautiful. The trick is to not overload the senses, but to balance out the textures so when you enter a room, you not only feel comfortable but actually feel the space has interest!
There are different types of texture you can add, such as reflective and natural. Adding a mix of textures within a space ensures you will draw the attention of anyone that enters it. Every surface has a texture, the key is to mix it up. The key to creating a space full of interest is to add enough different textures, without over stimulating the senses! If you’re unsure where to begin with texture, soft furnishings are a great place to start. Texture can be added by a number of elements within a space, cushions and throws which are a great place to start if you want to add some textural interest.
Lighting is another feature in the room with a dual texture aspect. The look and feel of a lamp itself play a role in providing texture. Lighting is the most multi-layered subject of all when it comes to texture. It is a matter of mixing different styles of source, choosing the right temperature of the bulb, and spreading the light sources at different levels throughout the room so you have wave upon wave of illuminated texture. Where you position light sources also varies the texture, an unlit corner can blossom into a beautiful reading nook with the help of lighting texture
